Alice Owen Lloyd – United Kingdom

I volunteered for PMGY with a friend of mine last year during my gap year before going to Bristol university. We came to Kumasi during December , a particularly quiet time for volunteers like myself and my friend Hannah. The programme was run by a man called Seth Mensah with the help of his friend Cobbinah Richard. Despite December being a quite time of the year for volunteers it did not feel like that for me and my friend. Cobbinah went out of his way to make our experience in Ghana unforgettable by constantly providing us with some form of entertainment from driving us 7 hours to cape coast to teach us about the slave trade, to simply entertaining us in the volunteer house during the endless power cuts which Kumasi suffers. Although the programme was run by Seth, without Cobbinah our time in Ghana would have been complexly different. He was fully involved with the volunteers making sure we were looked after 24/7 and happy. For example making sure he ate supper with us every night, making decorations for Christmas, and taking us around the market which we certainly wouldn’t have coped in without his help. Cobbinah is a clever man who clearly knows what he is doing in the volunteering domain and along with his group of colleagues they have created a charity which I know will aid in changing the lives of both the people in Africa and England. I wish you all the best Cobbinah
